I don’t know how to adequately express what wonderful people you all are, after the compassion you’ve shown for Arthur this week. Seriously, if someone is not patting you on the back right now I will come over and do it with my own hands.
Unfortunately Arthur died on his own terms while waiting for surgery. His tiny kitten self was too weak to go on and he slipped away overnight. We went to visit him this morning and he looked like a beanie baby, just sleeping in a blanket. In some ways it’s a relief not to have to put him through the trauma of surgery. Of course, in most ways we can probably all agree that kittens should never die, ever.
Some wonderful people have suggested that it might be nice to all use this opportunity to commemorate our own animals, ones that we love now or that we’ve loved before, by putting together a special edition of Bide Magazine: the ‘Animals we’ve loved’ edition. We can donate all proceeds to a yet to be determined animal charity (suggestions welcome) and spend a little while thinking about the way pets enrich and change us.
The budget for contributions has been a bit smashed by vet bills, but I would still like to pay contributors and donate the profits. I suppose if you would like to donate your contributor fee instead, we could figure out an appropriately gushing thank you arrangement.
If you have or had an animal in your life and a story you’d like to share, please email editorial@bidemagazine.com.au and tell us about it, and we’ll see if we can get some stuff going to raise funds for other animals in dire straits.
